Waiting for Your Ship to Come In

Note: This post is a much shorter, slightly revised version of one that I posted on January 30, 2012  entitled, Dream: Your Ship Has Come In. When I posted the following last night (12-9-2012) I did so not recalling that a longer, more personal version had been written and posted. I simply thought that the draft of what is below was all there is! While viewing my blog stats today, I saw that someone had visited the original post; that’s what clued me in to what I’ve just told you. If you are interested in reading the longer, more “revealing” post, you can look  for it in the archives by date, or can enter the title in the search box, or even open a new window and copy the following address: https://inspiritualwonder.us/2012/01/30/1466/

Our Ships A’waiting

Are you pining for something, hoping and praying over and over for whatever it might be, either material or spiritual? When we ask Spirit for something, we must be prepared to give something first. Generally speaking, maybe even always, our giving is more about a giving up of something.

“What??” you ask, perhaps a bit incredulously.

In actuality there is no bargain to be struck, only a matching of energies between Spirit and our Self, our own Spirit. Do you see what I mean here? Think about that sentence for a minute before reading further to see what your inner knowing might have to share . . . . . . . . .

Everything is already ours, already belongs to us. We simply receive based upon our own state of being in mind and heart, what we believe at the deepest level about ourselves and about the Source of All.

If we perceive ourselves as unworthy, as less than, as somehow deserving of punishment, or we might say not deserving of love at every moment, it is these beliefs that we must be willing to allow ourselves to give – as in, “give up.” I hope it goes without saying that the same holds true for our perceptions of others. In truth, what we perceive about our brothers and sisters is a reflection of what we believe about ourselves. We can only ever receive what we perceive and what we believe.

The one called Jesus taught, “It is done unto you as you believe.” This is Truth, so taking a good, honest look at our deepest beliefs and perceptions lets us know exactly who it is that is creating our current reality. Between you, me, and the fence post, each of us is experiencing the reality that our beliefs, perceptions, and resulting expectations cannot help but create, thus the meaning of the almost cliche, “You create your own reality.” We can assign blame here and there till the cows come home, but when we tire of that, we might just throw out blaming, futile as it is, and answer the call to self-honesty and self-responsibility, both of which might ultimately lead to genuine self-love, humility – that, and the desire to see others as we now see ourselves –  in the light of love. By the way, it is this new way of seeing self and other that allows one’s awakening to Oneness.

It follows then that if we are in alignment with the fundamental truth of the Oneness of All Things, and if our hearts wish only good for all, then we will be showered with the riches that Spirit can provide. In other words, we receive the riches of the spirit. And sometimes it is true, too, that “our ship comes in!” I was a very young child when I first heard my mother say, “When our ship comes in, we’ll have . . .”  Wowee!!! I understood and believed that we were waiting for a big boat to come to our house from far across the ocean and that on this boat would be everything I could ever wish for! I waited and waited for the arrival of our vessel riding deep in the water and bearing all our dreams-coming-true cargo. Eventually I learned that our ship belonged in the realm of Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. A sad day, I must say.

The ship’s fantasy status doesn’t necessarily mean that your own ship of dreams won’t eventually berth safely in the harbor of your heart, though more often than not we simply cease needing the riches of the world to be piled on our doorstep. We discover our contentment lies in the beauties our eyes fall upon when we finally recognize the wonder of all those “lilies of the field,” all that gloriousness waiting to be seen and acknowledged in the heart of one human being and in the stalk of one marsh reed and in the gift of one tiny sparrow perching for a long, long second on your still foot.

Wherever your ship lands, it is important and good to dream, good to imagine all that your heart desires and to fuel these desires by using your imagination and emotion. Just don’t forget to occasionally check in with your heart for an update on what darkness (pain, resentment, witholding . . .) still hides in shadowed corners so that you can give up again, or once and for all, what can hold you back from that ship’s smooth voyage to your door.
